RAISE YOUR HEART
Back in 2019, after Courtney recovered from intense eye surgery (and almost losing her sight), in an attempt to reestablish trust in her body, she and drummer Pam took up yoga, and attended several 360 Emergence dance classes in Topanga. 360 is a style of free-form dance (sometimes fluid or very slow) that encourages movement based purely on feeling, not aesthetic, to help process, move, or release emotion in the body. From these healing experiences, the song was born. “Raise your heart” was a phrase the yoga instructor used that Pam latched on to and insisted was a song. It was written with the idea that amidst great suffering, our own minds are often our worst enemy, and retaining hope is key.
Would you like to be a part of a music video for Raise Your Heart? Here’s what you should do:
Find a spot in nature that is calming or inspiring to you, during the daytime
Play the song audibly, so the camera will pick it up
Film yourself in landscape (horizontally) on your phone or other device - NO VERTICAL VIDEO, please!
Please DO NOT use the front facing camera (as the quality is not as good)
Dance, do yoga, or both, or whatever you feel, for the entirety of the song
It’s fine if you are not continuously moving, or if there are parts of your performance you’re not happy with. We’ll only be taking a few seconds here and there of the best bits from everyone, and editing them together. But it’s helpful if we have a full take synced up with the song, so what we do use will be in sync with not just the rhythm, but the feel of the lyrics at that particular moment. So, don’t worry if you think it’s not perfect. Most importantly, just do whatever the music makes you feel, and HAVE FUN! There’s no pressure.
